About this domain

This domain, thecrockergalleria.com, was previously used by the Crocker Galleria, a shopping centre in San Francisco. That business is real, it continues to operate, and it has nothing to do with this website.

We acquired the domain after it lapsed. We are not the Crocker Galleria, we are not connected to its owners, tenants, management or staff, and we cannot help with anything relating to it. If you arrived here looking for the shopping centre, for a shop inside it, for opening hours, parking, leasing enquiries or lost property, this is the wrong place and we have no information to give you. Please search for the centre by name to find its current official contact details.

What the site is now is straightforward. Crocker is an editorial site about art, design and the people making it. We write about how galleries work, how artists and designers are commissioned and paid, how studios run, how craft is taught and passed on, and the practical business decisions behind work that most people only ever see finished and framed. The tagline is Art, design and the people making it, and we take the second half of that as seriously as the first.

We kept the domain because it is short and readable, not because of what it used to point at. We have not reused any of the previous site’s content, branding, photographs or wording, and we do not present ourselves as a continuation of it. Every article here is published under our own byline, The Crocker Desk.

This page exists so that the situation is written down plainly and nobody has to guess. If anything on the site reads as though we are claiming otherwise, that is an error on our part and we would like to know about it.

Crocker

Crocker is a publication about art, design and the people who make things by hand. We are interested in galleries and what they choose to show, in studios and how work actually gets made in them, in objects that were designed rather than merely produced, and in the slow habit of collecting.
