This is a small editorial site. It collects very little, and this page explains exactly what and why, without the usual defensive prose.
What we collect
From visits. When a page on this site loads, standard technical information is recorded: the address of the page, the time of the request, the page or search that referred you, and the type of browser and device you are using. Your IP address is processed to derive an approximate location, usually no more precise than a city, and to keep the site secure. None of this is used to identify you as an individual.
From email. If you write to hello@thecrockergalleria.com, we hold your email address and the contents of your message for as long as we need them to deal with the matter.
The site has no accounts and no payment processing.
Why we collect it
So that the site works and stays up; so that we can see, in aggregate, which subjects readers care about; and so that we can answer correspondence. We have no advertising business, we sell nothing to data brokers, and we do not build reader profiles.
Cookies
Ours fall into two groups: strictly necessary cookies, which make pages behave correctly, and analytics cookies, which count visits. Where consent is required for the non-essential ones, we ask before setting them. You are free to block or delete cookies in your browser at any point, and nothing here becomes inaccessible if you do.
Third parties
We depend on a handful of ordinary suppliers: a hosting company, a content delivery network, an analytics tool and an email provider. Each processes data on our instructions under its own data protection terms, and none may use it for its own purposes.
Where articles link to galleries, makers or auction houses, or embed material from them, those organisations apply their own privacy policies from the moment you interact with them.
Retention
Analytics data is aggregated and kept only as long as it usefully informs what we publish. Email is retained while the exchange is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted. You can ask us to delete it sooner and we will, unless we are legally required to keep it.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to have it erased, to object to or restrict our processing of it, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent where you have given it. These rights are free to use and we will not ask you to justify yourself. Write to hello@thecrockergalleria.com setting out what you would like done, and we will respond within one month.
Should you feel we have handled your data poorly, you are entitled to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office or to the equivalent regulator where you live. We would prefer you raised it with us first.
A note on misdirected enquiries
Because this domain formerly belonged to the Crocker Galleria shopping centre in San Francisco, we occasionally receive email plainly intended for that business. We are unconnected to it and cannot forward messages. Where such an email contains personal information, we delete it rather than keep it.
Children
This is a general-audience publication about art and design. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
Any future version of this policy will be published on this page, with material changes noted at the top.
